For a fashion store we built a set of fittings on a black metal frame with light shelves. These clothing racks for a retail store come in three kinds: tall ones along the walls, low island racks in the middle and one long rack with a bay for accessories. None of them is fixed to a wall.
On the tall rack the hanging rail sits under a shelf, and the frame carries on upwards to form an open tier. A mannequin wearing a full outfit stands there, right above the rail with the same product group, so display and sale happen in one spot. The bottom shelf near the floor takes shoes, boxes or spare stock. The frame is square tube in matt black and the shelves are light: with a base this neutral, the colour in the room comes from the clothes.
The island racks are lower: a rail at chest height and a shelf on top holding stacks of knitwear. Shoppers see the far walls over the islands, so the whole floor reads at a glance. The long rack combines, under one top shelf, a hanging rail and an end bay with three shelves for bags and boxes. We built the same pairing, a rail plus display space, in a different geometry for a store with X-frame and leaning racks.
Every rack is freestanding, so the layout changes with the season: in winter puffer jackets get more room, in summer the islands are pushed together to open up the aisle. The same tube and the same shelves turn pieces of different heights into one coherent set of shop fittings. Why that flexibility pays off is explained in our article on modular shopfitting; another fashion floor is the Gonchara store.
The set suits clothing stores that change collections often and do not want the display tied to the walls. More about the format on our custom shop fittings page.
