Bedroom with Corner Wardrobe and Workspace

A corner fitted wardrobe for a bedroom, an open shelving column and a desk by the window: three pieces joined into one structure. Beige matt fronts, mirrors and a warm oak-effect finish.

A wardrobe along two walls

The built-in wardrobe runs in an L-shape along two walls, from floor to ceiling; the doors are full height, with no top boxes. The short wing by the window has two doors, the long one has four: solid at the sides, and two in the middle with a mirror in a thin black trim. The mirrors face the window and send daylight back into the room, while the solid doors at the sides stop the reflection from taking over the whole wall. The handles are long black bars; on paired doors they sit side by side at the joint and read as one line. Floor-to-ceiling furniture without an upper tier looks calmer: the front has vertical joints only.

Shelving and a desk by the window

We did not leave the end of the wardrobe by the window blank: an open shelving column in an oak-effect finish adjoins it, with five niches for books and devices. One of the shelves at desk height continues as the worktop, which runs along the window and turns onto the next wall. The desk grows out of the furniture instead of being pushed up against it, so the workplace does not look accidental. The inner corner of the worktop is rounded, which makes it comfortable to sit in the corner without pressing against an edge. At the far end of the desk there is a pedestal with three drawers. How to fit several functions into one room is discussed in our article on furniture that combines tasks.

This solution suits a bedroom that needs both a roomy wardrobe and a permanent place to work. A wardrobe with tinted glass and trouser racks is shown in the bedroom wardrobe with glass doors, and a handleless one in the beige wall-to-wall wardrobe.
