We made the furniture for an office in a building with floor-to-ceiling glazing: bench desks for the open-plan area, a reception desk, cabinets for the private offices, a kitchenette and a meeting table. The custom desks for the open-plan office set the tone for the whole fit-out — the same wood-effect decor and black metal return in every room.
The workstations are grouped into long double desks: people sit facing each other, and one shared frame of black steel section saves floor space. The tops come in a warm oak decor. It is board, not solid timber, so the surface shrugs off a coffee mug and needs no maintenance. The end frames are filled with metal mesh, which makes the desk look lighter and keeps daylight flowing from the windows. How to choose desk height and depth is covered in our guide to office desks and the EN 527 standard.
The double-height lobby has a two-level reception desk: the higher part faces the visitor, the lower one is the receptionist's workplace. A smooth white band ties them together, stepping down from one level to the other, while the base is clad in vertical wood-effect slats — the same as the column behind it. For the meeting room we built a long table with rounded corners and a concrete-look top: there is no sharp edge in the walkway, and a flush hatch in the middle hides sockets and cables.
In the private offices the cabinets take up a full wall: closed hinged sections for documents and an open dark-grey niche for things that need to stay within reach. The kitchenette is built into a recess: light matt handleless fronts, a wood-effect worktop and splashback, and lighting over the work surface. A similarly consistent set of materials can be seen in the office with an executive room and desks by the windows and in the open-plan space with ergonomic workstations. Furniture for a room made for learning rather than work is the classroom with shelving partitions.
This set suits a company furnishing an entire office that wants reception, workstations and private offices to look like one whole. Bespoke office furniture is one of the areas covered on our furniture for business page.
