Garden Equipment — Lawn Mowers
The garden equipment display racks in this project take the form of a two-sided slanted stand. For the garden department of a DIY superstore we made an island stand on which lawn mowers sit on two levels and can be seen from both sides of the aisle.
Slanted stand on two levels
The upper level consists of two slopes, one facing each side of the aisle. The mowers stand on them at an angle, turned towards the shopper: each one is visible in full, not just the handle and the catcher as on the floor. The slopes are covered in artificial turf. A metal stop rail runs along the lower edge: it keeps the machines from rolling off and carries the price holders, so the price sits under each model. Under the slopes, on a low platform, there is a second row, where the heavy models stand and never need lifting. The same length of aisle takes noticeably more models than the floor would.
Frame of identical sections
The frame is made of grey steel section with a square profile. Each section is an X-shaped support of two crossed posts with a double-pitched frame on top, tied by lengthwise rails. The sections are identical, so each one is a unit: the length of the run is set to fit the floor, and when the department is replanned the stand can be extended or shortened. We also used a tubular frame as the base of a display stand in a wallpaper zone arranged by style.
Ends and the promotional platform
The ends of the stand are closed with a frame of expanded metal mesh: it screens the lower level from the side without looking like a solid wall. In front of the end stands a low promotional platform for boxes and one display model, a spot for an offer right where the shopper enters the aisle. Next to it is an adviser's cabinet with a lockable door. The whole stand shows how shopfitting is designed around a particular product. Another example is a mirror wall with mesh bins.
