A graphite and oak custom kitchen for an apartment: an L-shaped layout with a dark fluted top, base fronts in an oak look and a tall unit up to the ceiling. The photos were taken right after the furniture was fitted, before the appliances went in.
The wall units are matt graphite with no handles. A fluted front brings a dark surface to life without adding another colour. Two display cabinets with fluted glass and a light on every shelf are built into the run: the glass blurs what is inside, and in the evening the cabinets work as lamps. A larger dark project is our kitchen with an island and an oak-look niche in a black wall of units.
The base units and the tall unit are flat, in an oak look, with a slim black edge handle along the top edge: barely visible, yet easy to grip. A white worktop and a pale marble-look splashback separate the dark top from the wood, with under-cabinet lighting below the wall units. Pairings like this are the subject of our article on the worktop and the wall above it. Another dark palette is our modern graphite kitchen. A light version with appliances in tall units is the white gloss kitchen with a black marble-look worktop.
It suits anyone who wants a dark kitchen but worries it will weigh the room down. More on the custom furniture for the home page.
